Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans and Medicare Advantage (Part C) offer different benefits, and the choice between them may depend on individual needs, preferences, and financial considerations.
Switching between plans is subject to enrollment periods and other restrictions. You can switch from Medigap to Medicare Advantage during the Open Enrollment Period (October 15 to December 7). Conversely, switching from Medicare Advantage to Medigap is possible during the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (January 1 to March 31), but it’s important to confirm eligibility and coverage with your provider.
Ultimately, the best choice depends on your health history, budget, benefits preference, and medication needs. Medigap may cover copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles but not services like long-term care, vision, or dental care. Medicare Advantage offers all Original Medicare benefits, plus additional coverage for services not included in Original Medicare, like vision, hearing, and dental care, with some plans also covering prescription drugs.
